It seems to be that time of year again-lots of apples and pears that are so sweet, bursting with flavor and ready to be eaten or used in your favorite recipes! The apple and pear trees are so heavy with fruit this year that we can barely keep up with picking! The deer and geese are feasting on the leftovers! So, if you are looking for a simple, one dish recipe for a quintessential fall dessert, here you go-Easy Pear Apple Crisp! Prepare this in 15 minutes; bake for 30 minutes and you have a dessert that would make your Grandma smile! Speaking of smiling Grandmas, this recipe was from my Grandma Rose’s recipe book. I can’t remember growing up without her warm pear-apple crisp on cool fall evenings! Freshly picked apples and pears baked with brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg! Try this for dessert! You won’t go wrong with Easy Pear Apple Crisp! Serves 6
Easy Pear Apple Crisp
4 Large Medium Tart Apples
4 Large Pears
2/3 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Butter
3/4 Cup Flour
1 Cup Oats
1 Tsp. Cinnamon
1 Tsp. Nutmeg
1 Tsp. Ginger
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Butter an 8″ x 8″ baking dish. Peel apples and pears; slice. Arrange in prepared baking dish.
In a large bowl, place the brown sugar. Add flour. Add oats. Add spices. Cut in butter with fork or pastry blender until well blended and crumbly.
Sprinkle over the apples and pears
Bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until fruit is fork tender. Serve warm with ice cream or cream, if desired.
